Dr. Kimberly Young originated the idea of internet addiction
back in 1996. She states that Internet addiction is similar
to impulse-control disorders on the Axis I Scale of the DSM. Studies have shown Internet addiction is
growing throughout the world. A team
from Stanford University’s School of Medicine performed a national study that
estimates nearly one in eight Americans suffer from at least one sign of
problematic Internet use.
Dr. Young developed the Internet Addiction Diagnostic
Questionnaire to diagnose the disorder.
This is a link to the questionnaire.
