Hurrican Sandy and Social Media

Social media played a huge role in sharing information on Hurricane Sandy.  People learned about and shared information by using Twitter to offer practical advice, critical information and sometimes comfort to those most affected by the storm.  The New York Fire Department also used Twitter to get important details to the public before, during and after the storm.  The Red Cross, FEMA, and local organizations continued to provide information and support to the public through social media after the storm.  Social media is helping to keep people informed about when services are being restored.
